31.03. is World Backup Day
For many years, the IT industry has been focusing attention on World Backup Day on March 31 and pointing out how important it is to back up data regularly.
Especially in times when ransomware keeps popping up in companies and at private individuals, backups are essential. It almost doesn't matter HOW the backup is created. What matters is that there is a backup.
There are many ways to back up important data. It is not always a good idea to simply back up everything, because daily backups quickly take up a lot of space. What exactly needs to be backed up, and how often?
Finally, there should also be a recovery strategy. For example, it's not worth making backups on tapes and then waiting 16 hours for the restore if you can only tolerate a few hours of downtime.
A tip from our data protection officer: Backups at third-party sites is a classic contract processing job. Even better: encrypt these backups. With good encryption, you'll have less to worry about.
